Clash Over Land Leaves Five Dead in Afghanistan

(MENAFN) A deadly clash between two families over a land dispute in northern Afghanistan’s Baghlan province left at least five people dead and 11 others wounded, local officials confirmed on Sunday.

The violent confrontation erupted Saturday in the Shahr Kohna area within the Baghlan Markazi district after the families clashed over ownership of a contested piece of land. Mohammad Zia Tawoos, the district governor, provided the casualty details: Five individuals were killed, and 11 others—including a woman and four mediators—sustained injuries.

Authorities have since detained eight suspects believed to be involved in the violent dispute. Their cases have been forwarded to the judicial system for a thorough investigation, according to local police. This incident highlights ongoing tensions and the fragile security situation surrounding land ownership conflicts in the region.
