NYC new mayor between praise, criticism
“That guy was the only person in the New York City mayor’s debate to say he wanted to focus on New York City. They were, all the candidates were asked: ‘If you could visit a foreign country, what would it be?’ And they all, of course, all had an answer. I think most said Israel,” Carlson said Friday on “The Tucker Carlson Show.”
“And he said, ‘I wouldn’t go anywhere. I’d stay in New York. And like, if I want to meet Jewish constituents, I go to their synagogues, their homes or whatever, but I’d be here in New York because that’s what I’m doing. I’m running New York. That’s my job,’” Carlson added.
Greene echoed Carlson’s appreciation for Mamdani’s debate response, stating that he “gave the right answer.” However, she clarified that she did not agree with his suggested initiatives, which include providing free public buses, universal child care, and a cap on rent prices in the city. Carlson also expressed his disapproval of Mamdani’s platform.
“I totally oppose his program,” Carlson stated. “I don’t think it works, but he’s talking about economics and everyone else is talking about foreign policy. Why is it hard to talk about economics, domestic economics?”
According to reports, former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo conceded the race on Tuesday night, effectively clearing the path for Mamdani to become the city’s first Muslim mayor.
"Tonight, we made history," Mamdani told supporters after Cuomo's concession. "We have won because New Yorkers have stood up for a city they can afford, a city where they can do more than just struggle, where those who toil in the night can enjoy the fruits of their labor in the day, where hard work is repaid with a stable life."
He also emphasized how he would approach his role if elected mayor, promising to use the influence of the position "to reject Donald Trump's fascism" and "govern our city as a model for the Democratic party, a party where we fight for working people with no apology."
President Donald Trump responded with a scathing post on social media, referring to Mamdani as a “100% Communist Lunatic.”
“It’s finally happened, the Democrats have crossed the line. Zohran Mamdani, a 100% Communist Lunatic, has just won the Dem Primary, and is on his way to becoming Mayor. We’ve had Radical Lefties before, but this is getting a little ridiculous. He looks TERRIBLE, his voice is grating, he’s not very smart," Trump wrote on Truth Social.
