Russian drone kills two civilians, injuring others in Ukraine

(MENAFN) A drone strike carried out by Russian forces on Ukraine’s Odesa region resulted in the deaths of two individuals and injuries to fourteen others, Ukrainian officials reported on Saturday.

Oleh Kiper, the head of the Odesa regional military administration, stated that six of the injured remain hospitalized, with three in critical condition, while the others are receiving outpatient treatment. He shared these details on the messaging platform Telegram.

Ukraine’s Air Force revealed that the assault involved 22 drones, with air defense units successfully shooting down 21 and electronic warfare systems disabling the remaining one. The main focus of the attack was the Odesa region.

According to the State Emergency Service, a 21-story residential building in Odesa was struck, igniting fires across three of its upper floors. The agency noted that residents were trapped inside their apartments during the blaze.

Odesa’s mayor, Hennadiy Trukhanov, confirmed that emergency responders recovered the bodies of a couple who died in the attack and extended his condolences to their family and friends on social media.

As a critical port on the Black Sea, Odesa has faced numerous attacks throughout the conflict, with drone strikes becoming increasingly frequent in recent months.
