Momani Discusses Media Challenges, Misinformation, AI Regulation
Speaking at the Tawasul 2026 Forum in a session titled “Media Keeping Pace with the Moment: How Do We Shape the Message in a World Flooded with Content,” Momani said the government aims to release information quickly but only after ensuring it is verified and not premature.
He explained that official communication typically begins with preliminary statements confirming that relevant authorities are monitoring developments, with more detailed updates issued as information becomes available.
Momani also outlined the government’s approach to misinformation, describing a process that includes monitoring circulating content, assessing its reach and impact, and coordinating responses with relevant institutions. He noted that not all rumors require official rebuttals, as some may risk amplifying false information, while others are addressed through spokespersons or indirect official messaging.
He added that in high-sensitivity cases, direct intervention may come from senior government officials, including the prime minister, depending on the scope of the issue.
On artificial intelligence, Momani said the government views the technology as an opportunity across sectors but acknowledged associated risks, particularly regarding misinformation and content manipulation. He stressed the need for regulatory frameworks in digital media, including clear labeling of AI-generated content.
