Iran Military Highlights Strategic, Economic Role of Strait of Hormuz

(MENAFN) Iran’s military has said that greater control over the Strait of Hormuz could generate significant economic returns and enhance the country’s international influence, according to reports.

Military spokesperson Mohammad Akraminia stated that managing the strategic waterway could potentially increase national revenue and strengthen Iran’s geopolitical leverage, particularly given its importance in global energy transport.

According to reports, the Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world’s most critical shipping routes, handling a substantial portion of global oil and liquefied natural gas exports, making it a key focus of regional and international security concerns.

Iranian officials have described their position in the strait as a strategic asset, with portions of maritime control attributed to different branches of the country’s naval forces, including the Revolutionary Guard naval units and the regular navy.

According to reports, Iranian lawmakers have also discussed formal mechanisms for managing maritime traffic through the strait, framing it as part of a broader strategy to convert geographic advantage into economic benefit.
